Pink Floyd was a British rock band, considerate a xx century cultural icon and one of the most influential bands in the history of music that obtained great popularity thanks to its psychedelic music that evolved towards the progressive rock with the passage of time. She is known for her songs, the sonic experimentation, the innovative covers of her records and her elaborate live shows. Their sales exceed 300 million albums sold worldwide, 4597.5 million of them in the United States alone.
Initially the group consisted of drummer Nick Mason, keyboardist and vocalist Richard Wright, bassist and vocalist Roger Waters and guitarist and lead vocalist Syd Barrett, who became the band's first leader.Pink Floyd began with a great success in the London underground scene in the late sixties, with Syd Barrett as the main compos. In 1983 the group released the album The Final Cut which had a modest success compared to their previous works and the band did not even go on tour.
In 1985, Waters declared the extinction of Pink Floyd noting that the band was creatively exhausted. The other members, Gilmour and Mason, refused to accept this decision and continued with the group for which Waters sued them claiming part of the rights of the Pink Floyd brand.Waters lost in court but reached an agreement with Gilmour and Mason.In November 2014 The Endless River went on sale, the band's latest studio album.

The lyrics of this song are inspired by a feeling of nostalgia for the absence of a friend and former member of the band, Syd Barrett, who left the same in 1968 for mental problems derived from drug use.
